We provide critical and relevant research findings to law enforcement professionals on request. We emphasize empirical research that promotes successful policing practices. Information shared is gleaned from reviewing professional peer-reviewed journals and government reports. The information is summarized in a manner that law enforcement professionals can understand.
We provide law enforcement consulting and training resources available to law enforcement in North Carolina.
We assist police departments in developing strategies to better anticipate and prepare for the future. Tools used to anticipate the future include environmental scanning, Delphi Technique, visioning, backcasting, and scenario building.
Any successful journey to the future, requires skills in a number of areas. One area of importance in law enforcement is critical thinking. We utilize the Watson-Glaser Critical Thinking Appraisal III to assess police officer critical thinking levels to include Recognizing Assumptions, Evaluating Arguments, and Drawing Conclusions. The WGCTA III is taken online and provides officers with a Profile and Development Report. This is assessment is due in conjunction with a critical thinking training which includes the following blocks of instruction: 1) understanding the critical thinking process; 2) recognizing and correcting flawed thinking; 3) interrupting one's WGCTA III profile, 4) understanding how to develop and improve one's critical thinking, and 4) a police class study on flawed thinking. If interested contact Dr. Champion at policeparadigmpioneers2100@gmail.com.
A key skill to successful leadership is problem-solving. To understand and improve problem-solving skills, one must understand one's preferred learning style. We use Kolb's Experiential Learning Profile to assess officer learning style. KELP generates a report on the officer's learning style, plus a development report to allow officers to develop additional learning styles to improve their problem-solving.
